March 5, 2003

Members Present: Cathy Thomas, Jim Anthony, Ethel Lynch, Gene Ott, Charles Pfeifer, Cherri Lambeth, and GretchenVan Doren. Ex-officio: Janet May.

The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2003.

1               The minutes of February 19, 2003 were approved as distributed.

2               Dental Insurance Plan for Retirees :  Janet May reported that the Employee Benefits Office, the Personnel Office, and Mercer Human Resource Consulting had looked at several different retiree dental plans and the one they felt had the most to offer for the cost was Delta Dental.  She handed out a copy of the Delta Advantage proposal for the committee to review. This benefit will only be available to retirees who have the university medical insurance, and 20% of eligible retirees must enroll for the plan to take effect.  The premiums would be approximately $26.99/month for retiree only and $79.11/month for retiree and dependents. This will be a voluntary benefit with the retiree paying all.  There was some discussion regarding the fact that the plan was tied to the medical insurance, and Janet explained that this is a requirement of Delta.  A motion was made and seconded that the committee support the plan as offered. The motion passed unanimously.

3               Voluntary Legal and Vision Insurance: Janet May brought up that she had spoken with the University Business Office and that there is now some doubt that these voluntary benefits will be offered because the Business Office is understaffed.  There was some discussion about whether or not the Fringe Benefits Committee should relay this information to ACAP for their action.  Janet said that she wanted to get more information on this before anything is said to ACAP.

4               A copy of the memo Cathy prepared to send to Professor Cantrell was distributed.  A motion was made and seconded to send the memo as written. The motion passed.

5               The meeting adjourned at 10:45 a.m.
