Through the exploration of existing beliefs and new theoretical perspectives, Miguel Licona, a professor in curriculum and instruction, teaches the ABCs of education.
With classes such as multicultural education, science education methods, and research and curriculum, Licona places students in what he calls “meaningful experiences where (students) must think their way through new milestones.”
Director of secondary education, Licona also is involved with the Border Teachers Network, an interdisciplinary effort that uses the U.S./Mexico border to contextualize the learning experience for students.
He also is finalizing work on the documentary “Aguamiel: Secrets of the agave,” a film on women from both sides of the border, and how their knowledge and values allow them to live a life full of hope for their children as they push to participate in the local economy.
Licona teaches face-to-face and online courses to students in Las Cruces, Grants and Carlsbad campuses.
