The work of 11 Juárez photographers, most of them employed by the Diario de Juarez, was featured in the New York Times "Week in Review" section Sunday, July 6. The full-page feature, "Juárez, Mexico: On the Border, Between Extremes," published photographs from the forthcoming book, "Juárez--The Laboratory of Our Future" (Aperture Press).
"Ciudad Juárez, a city of well over a million people just across the Rio Grande from El Paso, Texas, is a dynamic point along the membrane between the world of the desperately striving in Mexico and that of the relatively prosperous in the United States," stated the opening paragraph of the article written by Tom Kuntz. "The photographs on this page capture some of the border's grit, hustle, and run-of-the-mill horrors."
The group of photographers has taken thousands of pictures since 1993 in their effort to document life in Juárez.
