Medical Foundation Created

Now Juárez children affected by an alteration in the lymphatic system can receive medical attention, thanks to the Carlos Chan Foundation.

Due to lack of information in Juárez of the disease, the foundation asked for help in Kyoto, Japan. The illnesses consist in an alteration in the lymphatic system, explained Dr. Patricia Ibarra. Dr. Ibarra's son, Carlitos, was born with the disease, which appears before children reach six years old, and generally presents benign tumors. He was the first child from Latin America to receive treatment in Japan.

In order to help more children with this disease in Juárez, the Carlos Chan Foundation was created. "Chan" is the Japanese word for child. The foundation sent doctor Jorge Pérez Lucio to Japan to learn more about the illness, and he is now actively involved in the foundation.

Surgery is not the only treatment for the disease, according to Pérez Lucio. The OK432 Japanese medicine is now available, he told Diario de Juárez.

Producers as merchants will to register at the Secretariat of Health in a year, said Dr. Meléndez, Head of Sanitary Regulation. The Secretariat will not permit the commerce of medicinal plants or remedies that they do not register.
