Interests: Land Use Planning, Urbanization, Transportation Planning, and Cultural Geography

Thesis: Downtown redevelopment for Las Cruces.

Zach L. Edwards

Thesis: An Exploratory GIS Model of West Nile Virus in the Middle Rio Grande Valley, Bernalillo County, New Mexico

Peg Gronemeyer

  • B.S. and M.S. in Ecology at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (B.S. in 1990, M.S. 1996)
  • Recently completed a Masters of Applied Geography at NMSU

Interests: Ecology and conservation of large carnivores

Thesis: Using GIS to Understand the Anthropogenic and Natural Factors Affecting the Characteristics and Spatial Distribution of African Wild Dogs.

 

Mark L. Heil

  • B.A. in Geography from New Mexico State University in 2005
  • Currently working on a Masters of Applied Geography at NMSU

Interests: Geology, Geography, Astronomy, & Biology

Thesis: Dendroclimatology of Douglas Fir in the Magdalena Mountains, NM (tree ring dating and correlation of weather cycles to Douglas Fir in Magdalena Mountains in Magdalena, New Mexico).

Brent Lloyd

Kate McLane

  • B.S. in Pharmacy from Purdue in 1971, M.S. from Purdue in 1974, a M.A. in counseling and educational psycholgy in 1982, and a M.A. in secondary education at NMSU in 1990.
  • Currently working toward a Masters of Applied Geography at NMSU

Interests: GIS, Biogeography, Soils, Ornithology, Photography, Art

Teaching Abilities: Intro Photography, Field Photography, and Photographic Processing at Colorado NW Community College, taught Fundamentals of Photography, Darkroom Photography at NMSU Nontraditional Programs and Dept. of Journalism, taught Pharmacy Dispensing at Purdue School of Pharmacy, was grad assistant in ceramics at NMSU art dept., was grad assistant in the College of Education, supervising cooperative education students in the Las Cruces public schools, taught Art and Design, 6th form Chemistry, General Science, and Mathematics at Hillcrest High School, Hamilton, New Zealand.

Skills / Specialties: Experience with ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine, Remote Sensing, Soil classification, and a climatology research project in North Cascades National Park, Washington.

Dana L. Robinson

  • B.S. in Anthropology from Towson State University in 1986
  • Currently working on a Masters of Applied Geography at NMSU

Interests: GIS, Biogeography

Teaching Abilities: Previously trained crew members and crew chiefs in field techniques associated with cultural resource inventory such as: survey and site identification, excavation techniques and documentation requirements, site mapping techniques using compass and tape, as well as GPS units, interpretation of topographic maps, instruction in implementing guidelines associated with oil and gas development, federal law obligations for cultural resource protection, and for environmental protection & management as defined by the National Envitronmental Policy Act (NEPA).

Thesis: Salt cedar in a non-riparian environment.

Skills / Specialties: Experience with ArcGIS, AutoCad, Access, near-survey grade GPS receivers and associated software, field orienteering, interpretation of topographic maps. Worked for all three federal land managing agencies (BLM, NPS, USFS), as well as numerous thrid party contractors permitted to these various agencies to conduct cultual resource inventory.

 

Kendra L. Sullivan

  • B.A. in Humanities from Hofstra University, New York in 2004
  • Currently working on a Masters of Applied Geography at NMSU

Interests: Conservation, land use, climate change, & GIS

Thesis: Land use and management at the Valles Caldera National Preserve.

Teaching Abilities: Geog 111 lab, Geog 481 lab, and 295 (National Parks)

Elizabeth Verdecchia

  • B.A. in Geology and Environmental Science in 2000
  • Currently working on a Masters of Applied Geography at NMSU

Interests: GIS, Remote Sensing, & Conservation

Thesis: Evaluating the Efficacy of Environmental Education and Agroforestry Social Programs such as Non-governmental Organizations Based on how they Affect Deforestation Rates and Forest Succession in Eastern Paraguay Using Remote Sensing.

Teaching Abilities: As a Peace Corps Volunteer in Paraguay, she taught environmental education, conservation, rural health, English, and information technology to teachers, youth, and farmers.

Skills / Specialties: Currently working full-time as an Environmental Protection Assistant with the International Boundary and Water Commission in El Paso, Texas. Some of her computer skills include ArcGIS, ERMapper, Photoshop, Grapher, webpage design. She also has experience working in three national parks in resource conservation and cartography.
