Agricultural Museums

The history of agriculture is rich and quite unique in New Mexico. Many cultures are depicted in museums across the state. Their special farming techniques, unique food products and the raising and use of animals, are a special part of New Mexico history. Find out more about "AG"riculture in the museums listed below.

 

  • Acoma Pueblo Museum
    The museum showcases pottery from the 15th century to the present. Located at the base of Acoma Sky City. Acoma is located 12 miles off I-40 just east of Grants. Acoma Pueblo, NM.

  • American International Rattlesnake Museum
    World's largest collection of captive-born rattlesnakes. 202 San Felipe NW, Albuquerque, NM.

  • Aztec Museum & Pioneer Village
    The museum has a collection of tractors, supply wagons, farm equipment and much more. The Pioneer Village has 14 buildings, both original's and replicas. All buildings are completely furnished with items from the late 1800s to the 1900s. 125 N. Main, Aztec, NM.

  • B-Square Ranch
    This 12,000 acre ranch, wildlife preserve and experimental farm is owned and operated by Tommy Bolack. Visitors are welcome year-round. Two museums on the ranch display collections of antique farm machinery and electricity-generating equipment. Tours are by appointment.

  • Bolack Electromechanical Museum
    This museum holds a collection of early items depicting development in electric power, telephone, communications, oil field equipment and the farming industry. Owned and operated by Tommy Bolack. Tours by appointment. (505) 325-7873
  • Box Car Museum
    Local history and artifacts of the Wild West, mining and cattle drives, circa 1885-1930. Located in the AT&SF Railroad Depot, 108 N Main Street, Magdalena, NM.

  • Carlsbad Museum and Art Center
    The Carlsbad Museum and Art Center exhibits minerals, archeological specimens, Southwestern art, American Indian pottery and pioneer ranching artifacts. Admission is Free. 418 west Fox St. Carlsbad, NM

  • Cleveland Roller Mill Museum
    This three-story adobe roller mill played a major role in the agricultural economy of northern New Mexico for a period of 80 years. Closed for production in 1957, it was the last mill to operate in the Mora Valley. In its time, it was one of the two largest mills in the southwestern United States. The mill is fully operable.

  • Cloudcroft Museum & Pioneer Village
    Historic buildings built in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Old time farming and ranching tools, equipment and many more artifacts, depicting the history of early living in Cloudcroft and the Sacramento Mountains. The Cloudcroft Museum is located on Hwy 82, across from the Chamber of Commerce. Cloudcroft, NM.

  • Columbus Historical Society Museum
    This collection features period clothing and household items as well as farm and ranch items including saddles, tools, barbed wire, and branding irons. Located in Columbus, NM, just south of Deming, NM.

  • Deming Luna Mimbres Museum - Terrific museum! Military history includes Fort Cummings (1863), Camp Cody (WWI), Deming Army Air Base (WWII) and a memorial to heroes of Bataan Death March. A new section honors local participants of those times and of more recent actions. Other exhibits include the original Custom House (located across the street), Hispanic room, a wonderful doll room, an art gallery, antique autos, a collection of unique bottles of all shapes and sizes, Harvey House, and a fine collection of Mimbres Indian pottery and more. 301 S.   • El Rancho de las Golondrinas

  • Farmington Museum
    The museum's featured exhibit is "A Little Local History" and explores the aesthetic and cultural

  • Frijole Ranch History Museum
    A ranch house since the 1870s, Frijole Ranch History Museum has served as a cultural history center. It preserves many artifacts from the frontier life. Check out an old one room schoolhouse, and the spring house. The Frijole Ranch History Museum is wheelchair accessible.

  • Geronimo Springs Museum

  • Ghost Ranch Living Museum

  • H.A. "Pappy" Thornton Homestead and Museum

  • Historical Museum and Art Center
    Many collections are displayed at this museum including the Artesia farm and ranch collection and Native American artifacts. Among these collections are tractors, plows, arrowheads, metates, Apache baskets, and much more! Check with the museum for special annual shows, too. Admission is Free. 505 W.   • Hubbard Museum of the American West (formerly the Museum of the Horse)
    The Museum of the Horse honors the horse for the role he has played throughout history. The horse is remembered for his exploration with the conquistadors, pulling the plows of settlers that moved to the fertile valleys of the plains, and his constant companionship with the cowboy and the outlaw. The Hubbard Museum of the American West pays tribute to this swift, strong, gentle animal. In the richly diverse collections of the museum, history truly comes to life!   • Las Vegas City Museum & Rough Rider Memorial
    Collections at this museum include Las Vegas History, Native American Artifacts and Theodore Roosevelt Rough Rider Memorial. The history of this northeastern New Mexico town is featured in the Las Vegas History collection, which includes artifacts from 19th and 20th century pioneer residents; the Santa Fe Trail; the railroad era; ranching, mining and lumbering industries; and both World Wars.   • Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Museum
    This Center portrays the history of Lea County as seen from the perspective of Indians, buffalo hunters, soldiers, open-range homesteaders, and settlers.   • New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum - 47-acre farm uses antique equipment to raise livestock as New Mexicans did centuries ago.   • Old Mill Museum

  • Oñate Monument and Visitors Center

  • P & M Farm Museum

  • Pueblo Cultural Center

  • San Juan County Museum at Salmon Ruins
    The museum houses a permanent collection of Anasazi pottery, jewelry, fetishes, and replica tools and hunting equipment.
