    • Annual White Oaks Miners Day Celebration
      Rides, amusements, art, museums, live demonstrations, "Madam Varnish" contest, Woman's Temperance, Old West shootout, Smokey Bear, trick dogs, petting zoo, parade, dance, children's costume contest, old time photos, wagon rides, stink bug races, and more!!!! Visit artisans, Miners Home Museum, Miners Tool Shed Museum and the School House Museum. Voices from the Past program starts at 1pm with a visit by "Elizabeth Garrett," composer of the state song, at 2pm. The days festivities run from 9am to 5pm.       Still trying to figure out how to bait that hook? The annual fishing clinic ofers anglers of all ages the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to fish and then to practice thos e newly learned skills. You will be taught everything from casting and bait selection, to fly tying and aquatic invertebrate identification. Bring your fishing equipment or call to see if there is some to borrow.     • Raft the Rio
      Raft the Rio, an annual event sponsored by the Southwest Environmental Center, will be held on the 3rd Saturday in June 17 on the Rio Grande near Las Cruces, NM. This sponsored event is open to individuals and teams of all ages willing to get wet and have fun. Start building your rafts now! The three-mile rafting adventure will begin at La Llorona Park beneath the Picacho Street bridge, and end just upstream from the Calle del Norte Bridge ("Mesilla Bridge"). Creativity and the use of discarded materials in building rafts is highly encouraged. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Best use of recycled materials; Most people on one raft; Least likely to finish (must be floating at start of race); First to finish; Best mascot; Most creative; Other categories yet to be determined!
      The river is expected to be full, due to releases of irrigation water from Caballo Reservoir. Teams may register at the starting line beginning at 8:30 a.m., or in advance by contacting the Southwest Environmental Center. The race begins at 10 a.m. The entry fee is $10 per raft in advance (or $15 on race day), plus $5 for each adult crew member (17 years and older) after the first two. New Mexico law requires that all participants wear flotation devices. Come on out and have fun on YOUR river. Don't forget your hats and sunscreen.     • Kite Festival at Angel Fire
      Bring your lawn chair, sunscreen and your favorite kite for a weekend full of kite flying adventure. Held at the softball fields near the airport, the event features dozens of spectacular kites, including shapes such as an octopus, giant blow fish, spinning rings and more. Demonstrations are given by kit-flying enthusiasts on traveling in a kite-powered buggy, flying 100-foot circumference type kites, mini-kite making workshop and more.     • Armendaris Ranch Tours - "Bat Caves" Tour
      Visit the historic Armendaris Ranch. This tour leaves the Geronimo Springs Museum at 1:00 pm and returns approximately 10:00 pm. A side trip on the ranch allows participants to see the bison and various wildlife on the ranch and learn a little about the ranch operation. Supper is served at the bat cave site, and the flight of hundreds of thousands of bats is spectacular. Cost of this tour is a $150.00 donation to the Museum. Supper, soft drinks and water are provided. Four-wheel drive, high clearance vehicles are required, and transportation will be provided if participants do not have the acceptable vehicles. Advance registration and further information may be obtained from Geronimo Springs Museum.
