The Very Large Array, one of the world's premier astronomical radio observatories, consists of 27 radio antennas which are "listening" to the cosmos on the Plains of San Agustin, 50 miles west of Socorro, N.M.

Socorro County has an amazing diversification of places to see and things to do. From the Very Large Array (VLA) with its high-tech radio telescopes, to the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, to the historical significance of the new world along El Camino Real, Socorro County has something for everyone. Art, high-quality, live performance, historic churches, forts and mines, ranching industry history, museums, outdoor sports like hunting, rock climbing and ATV trails, national and state monuments, national forests, backcountry byways, all levels of lodging, good food and home brewed beer - you want to spend time in Socorro County.

REDTT has a strong County Tourism Council (CTC) that meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month in various locations around the county.
