Student Services Information for Masters students School of Social Work at NMSU
Maria Ortiz
Student Services Coordinator
The School of Social Work Student Services office is located in the College of Health & Social Services Building in Suite 210. Students who are interested in Social Work should schedule an advising appointment as soon as possible. For an advising appointment, call 505-646-3529. Ms. Ortiz provides guidance to Master of Social Work applicants to facilitate the MSW application process
Once students are admitted into the MSW program a Faculty Advisor is assigned to each student. During the mandatory New Student Orientation students are given the name of their faculty advisors and all questions regarding academic matters should be discussed with the assigned faculty advisor.
Master of Social Work Applicants: Students who are interested in pursuing a Master of Social Work (MSW) Degree must apply to NMSU Graduate School or NMSU Foreign Student Admissions for admission and also submit a complete application packet to the school of Social Work (Application Face Sheet, Current Resume, Personal Statement, Letters of Reference and Field Evaluation if applying for Advanced Standing). Incomplete applications are not considered for admission. Admission is competitive and completion of required paperwork alone does not guarantee acceptance into the MSW program.

MSW "practice" licensing exams available
- Courtesy of the Title IV-E project, aka the Family & Child Welfare Training " Research Project, there are four stations with these practice exam programs installed. Two stations have the program and tests for the BSW licensing exam; two stations have the program for MSW licensing exam.
To use the setup in HSS 326 (the College's Media & Resource Center), you must first make an appointment to ensure that the center is available for the purposes of the practice exam. You may email or call the MRC at 646-4388.
Allot at least 1 hour for the shorter practice exam; 2 hours for the full practice exam. These are multiple choice questions.
Once you have your confirmed appointment, you must present your actual NMSU I.D. should you wish to also look at the print materials.
NOTE: we ask that you do not bring your children or other companions who are not themselves completing the exam; the media center is not open for other uses during the summer and staff cannot always be around to provide supervision and security during your session.
