SWTDI operates the Southwest Region Experiment Station (SWRES) for photovoltaic systems located on the campus of New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Staff at the SWRES help people understand, install, and use photovoltaic (PV) systems. The SWRES is an integral part of the Department of Energy's National Center for Photovoltaics. Our program is funded by a contract from Sandia National Laboratories. Additional contractual work is performed for a wide variety of private and public sector clients, including utility companies, PV manufacturers and distributors, and local, state, and federal government agencies.

The Southwest Region Experiment Station (SWRES), res.gifis a three-acre test and evaluation facility that was established by the U.S. Department of Energy in 1980 to test prototype residential photovoltaic systems. Today, the SWRES tests photovoltaic and small wind systems on-site and in the field. Engineers provide design assistance, systems monitoring, and acceptance testing of installed systems. The SWRES also assists with solar and wind energy project feasibility assessments, business plans, and program development and implementation.
