Non-instrusive are those that do not require the installation of the sensor directly onto or into the road surface. The sensors for non-intrusive technologies are mounted overhead or on the side of the roadway. The video image processor, microwave radar, active and passive infrared sensors, ultrasonic sensors, and passive acoustic array sensors.
