The New Mexico State University Art Gallery will present “A Distinct Grace: Before and After Breast Cancer,” an exhibition featuring 11 artists from across the country, Aug. 30 through Nov. 3. The Art Gallery is located in Williams Hall near the intersection of University Avenue and Solano Drive.
“A Distinct Grace” includes art of different styles and media by artists Erica Berger, Karl Frederick Haendel, Anna Lascari, Andrew Perret, Glen Sacks, Elise Siegel, Joy Glanz, Christiane Corbat, Art Myers, Hollis Sigler and Sarah Hutt. Their work addresses women’s issues, conserves memories, documents and memorializes loved ones and celebrates the lives of survivors of breast cancer and their families. Each artist advocates breast cancer awareness by participating in non-profit organizations and through publishing books and creating art work on the subject. “A Distinct Grace” is underwritten by U.S. Oncology.
The opening reception for “A Distinct Grace” will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at the University Art Gallery.
Featured artist Sarah Hutt will present a lecture on her sculptural work at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, in the Corbett Center Auditorium. Hutt is an artist living in Boston whose work is included in numerous private and public collections such as the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University. She works as Director of Temporary Public Art in the Boston mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs. The lecture is sponsored by the Friends of the University Art Gallery Board of Trustees.
