1. Call to Order

2. Guests

Mr. Ben Woods, Vice President for Facilities and Services, and Dr. Milt Thomas, Animal and Range Sciences Professor, gave a presentation on the Chihuahuan Desert Rangelands Research Center (CDRRC/College Ranch). In 1927, Congress granted 64,000 acres of public lands to NMSU for research purposes. The College of Agriculture and Home Economics Department of Animal and Range Science has been responsible for the care, feeding, and operation of the ranch. In the last 20-30 years, uncontrolled use of the property has impacted the operation of the facility. The property, which has global usage for research, is under the management of Dr. Thomas. A steering committee with members from the College of Agriculture and Home Economics and the College of Arts and Sciences has been formed and a management document to help direct activities is in place. Vandalism, especially with firearms, is a serious problem.
