BCS 110G. Introduction to Computerized Information Systems 3 cr.
Computerized information systems, their economic and social implications. Introduction
to microcomputer hardware, personal productivity software, and communications.
Credit not allowed for both BCS 110G and C S 110G.
BCS 210. Business Programming Using Visual Tools 3 cr.
Introduction to the development of business problem solutions in the visual
programming environment. Prerequisite: either BCS 110G or C S 110G or consent
of instructor.
BCS 222. Computational Algorithms in Business File Processing 3 cr.
Introduction to structured systems development and file processing algorithms
in business. Prerequisite: C S 167 or consent of instructor.
BCS 322. Advanced File Processing Techniques 3 cr.
Advanced real-time and batch file processing techniques using multiple data
structures. Includes the use of source code libraries and subprograms, and an
introduction to object-oriented programming concepts. Prerequisite: BCS 222
or consent of instructor.
BCS 338. Business Information Systems I 3 cr.
Application, design and use of computerized information systems in business
environment. Prerequisite: BCS 110G or C S 110G or consent of instructor. Not
open to BCS majors for degree credit.
BCS 350. Systems Analysis and Modeling 3 cr.
Analysis, requirements determination and logical modeling of business information
processing systems. Prerequisite: BCS 322 or concurrent enrollment.
BCS 450. Systems Design, Development and Implementation 3 cr.
Design, development and implementation of business information processing systems.
Includes maintenance, evaluation and system management considerations. Prerequisite:
C or better in BCS 350.
BCS 455. Design of On-Line Business Systems 3 cr.
Covers analysis, design and development of on-line real-time computerized business
information systems. Prerequisite: BCS 322 or consent of instructor.
BCS 458. Business Information Systems II 3 cr.
Advanced topics in decision support systems, expert systems, data base management
systems, data communications, and other current computerized business decision
tools. Prerequisite: BCS 338 or consent of instructor.
BCS 460. Data Communications and Networks 3 cr.
Data communications for business computer systems. Local and wide area networks,
data communications protocols and media, client-server and distributed processing
systems. Prerequisite: BCS 322 or consent of instructor.
BCS 465. Business Systems Simulation 3 cr.
Simulation of business systems. Model design, implementation, testing and analysis.
Prerequisite: BCS 322 or consent of instructor.
BCS 470. Object-Oriented Systems Development Techniques 3 cr.
Business information systems development in the object-oriented environment.
Prerequisite: BCS 222 or consent of instructor.
BCS 475. Database Management Systems 3 cr.
Design, development and use of database management systems in the business environment.
Prerequisite: BCS 350 or consent of instructor.
BCS 480. Ecommerce Security 3 cr.
Introduction to securing network based applications from both internal and external
threats. Fundamentals of network security including TCP/IP, firewalls, intrusion
detection and vulnerability discussed. Prerequisites: BCS 455 and BCS 460 or
C S 484 or E E 469 or consent of instructor. No S/U or audit option.
BCS 490. Selected Topics 1-3 cr.
Current topics in business systems analysis. Prerequisites vary according to
the topics being covered.
BCS 498. Independent Study 1-3 cr.
Individual studies directed by consenting faculty with prior approval of the
department head. Prerequisites: junior or above standing and consent of instructor.
A maximum of 3 credits may be earned.
