A minimum of 52 credits in theatre arts is required for the major. Students gain practical experience in all phases of theatrical production through participation in productions, student-directed theatre events, children's theatre performances, and summer programs. With strong emphases in acting, directing, technical theatre, and playwriting, the program prepares students for graduate study or to work in professional or educational theatre. The faculty is augmented by nationally known theatre artists in residence.

Students preparing to teach in the public schools may qualify for certification by completing the Bachelor of Science in Education degree with theatre arts as a teaching field. (See curricula in the ``College of Education'' section.)

THTR 250, Introduction to Stagecraft* 4 cr.
THTR 251, Introduction to Costume Crafts* 3 cr.
THTR 305, Theatre Practicum 5 cr.
THTR 325, Fundamentals of Lighting Design 3 cr.
THTR 331, 332, Theatre History I-II 6 cr.
THTR 334, Costume History 3 cr.
THTR 350, Scene Design 3 cr.
Dramatic Literature (choose from courses designated by the department) 6 cr.
THTR elective courses 6 cr.

Electives: Sufficient to bring total to 128, including 55 upper-division.

*THTR 201, 250, 251 are prerequisites for all upper-division theatre classes. THTR 105 and 288 are required for all upper-division acting classes.
