MAJOR: Philosophy

A major in philosophy prepares students for professional education in law, medicine, and theology and for graduate work in philosophy and related disciplines.

Philosophy courses provide an opportunity for students to enter into dialogue with great thinkers of the past and present. Critical thinking is emphasized.

Departmental Requirements
PHIL 201G, Introduction to Philosophy 3
PHIL 211, Informal Logic, or PHIL 312, Formal Logic 3
PHIL 220, Individual Conduct and Society or PHIL 223, Ethics 3

Twenty additional credits in philosophy numbered 300 or above.

Electives: Sufficient to bring total credits to 128, including 55 upper-division.

Philosophy Major Tracks

In response to varying student needs, the Department of Philosophy offers three informal tracks within the major program. These are:
1. Standard Philosophy Major Track (history of philosophy, ethics, logic, epistemology, and metaphysics)
2.Philosophy of Science Major Track
3.Philosophy of Mankind Major Track
