BOT 101. Keyboarding Basics3 cr. (2+3P)
Correct fingering and mastery of the keyboard to develop skillful operation. A speed and accuracy competency requirement must be met.
BOT 102. Keyboarding: Document Formatting3 cr. (2+3P)
Designed to improve keyboarding speed and accuracy; introduce formats of letters, tables and reports. A speed and accuracy competency requirement must be met.Prerequisite: BOT 101 or equivalent.
BOT 105. Business English I3 cr.
Training and application of the fundamentals of basic grammar and sentence structure (syntax) for the secretarial administration major.
BOT 106.Business Mathematics3 cr. (3+1P)
Mathematical applications for business, including training in the touch method of the 10-key calculator.
BOT 109.Business English II3 cr.
Training and application of the fundamentals of punctuation, capitalization, and numbers. Prerequisite: BOT 105.
BOT 110.Records Management3 cr.
Principles, methods and procedures for the selection, operation and control of manual and automated recoreds systems.
BOT 114. Speedwriting Shorthand I3 cr. (3+1P)
Principles of speedwriting shorthand and an introduction to dictation and transcription. Prerequisite: minimum keyboarding speed of 30 wpm and C or better in BOT 105 or BOT 109.
BOT 116. Introduction to Business Office Technology3 cr.
Departmental procedures, study skills, time and stress management, professionalism, interpersonal relations, career opportunities, campus and community resources.
BOT 119. Microcomputer Keyboarding 2 cr. (1+2P)
Efficient use of the computer keyboard. Covers the alphabet, number, and symbol keyboards. Individualized approach with interactive
software.
BOT 120. Accounting Procedures I3 cr. (2+2P)
Business accounting principles and procedures. Use of special journals, cash control and merchandising concepts. Reports for sole proprietorships. Will not substitute for ACCT 201 or ACCT 202.
BOT 121. Accounting Procedures II3 cr. (2+2P)
A continuation of BOT 120, emphasizing accounting principles and procedures for notes and interest, depreciation, partnerships and corporations, cash flow and financial statement analysis. Will not substitute for ACCT 201 or ACCT 202. Prerequisite: BOT 120.

Presentation of the touch method of typing.

BOT 160. Introduction to Word Processing1 cr.
Operation and beginning functions of selected word-processing programs. Prerequisite: basic typing skills.
BOT 161. Intermediate Word Processing1 cr.
Applying intermediate functions of selected word-processing programs. Prerequisite: BOT 160 or consent of instructor.
BOT 162. Advanced Word Processing1 cr.
Applying advanced functions of selected word-processing programs. Prerequisite: BOT 161 or consent of instructor.
BOT 201. Legal Office Procedures I3 cr. (2+2P)
Study of practices and equipment used in the legal environment with an overview of the law library and legal system. Prerequisites: OELA160 and BOT 211, or consent of instructor. Same as OELA 201.
BOT 202. Keyboarding Document Production3 cr. (2+3P)
Further development of keyboarding speed and accuracy. Production of complex letters, memos, tables, reports and business forms. A speed and accuracy competency requirement must be met. Prerequisite: BOT102 or consent of instructor.
BOT 203. Office Equipment and Procedures I3 cr. (2+2P)
Office organization, telephone techniques, equipment and supplies, handling meetings, human relations, mail procedures, and travel. Prerequisites: BOT 106, BOT 109, BOT 110, BOT 129 or equivalent, or concurrent enrollment, or consent of instructor.
BOT 204. Office Equipment and Procedures II3 cr. (2+2P)
A continuation of BOT 203 with advanced study of office practices. Prerequisite: BOT 203. Corequisites: BOT 209, COMM253G/265G, or consent of instructor.
BOT 205. Microcomputer Accounting I3 cr. (2+2P)
Introduction to automated accounting systems on microcomputers. Prerequisites: BOT 101 or equivalent, BOT 106, BOT 211, and OECS 105 or working knowledge of computers, or consent of instructor. Corequisite: BOT 121 or ACCT 200.
BOT 206. Microcomputer Accounting II3 cr. (2+2P)
Microcomputer accounting applications, integrating spreadsheets, wordprocessing, graphics, and database. Prerequisite: BOT 121 and OECS215, or consent of instructor.
BOT 207. Machine Transcription3 cr. (2+2P)
Creating office documents using transcribing equipment and microcomputer software. Emphasis on proofreading, editing and grammar. Prerequisites: minimum keyboarding of 45 wpm and C or better in BOT105 or BOT 109.
BOT 208. Medical Records and Procedures3 cr. (2+2P)
Records and procedures as applicable to medical offices. Prerequisites: BOT 110 and BOT 211, and either BOT 105 or BOT 109.
BOT 209. Business and Technical Communications3 cr.
Effective communication skills and techniques for career success in small and large, profit, and nonprofit companies. Composition of letters, memos, short reports, forms, proposals, and technical descriptions and directories. Prerequisites: ENGL 111G and computer keyboarding ability or consent of instructor.
BOT 210. Introduction to the Automated Office3 cr.
Applications of integrated business software packages. Prerequisite: BOT 101 or consent of instructor. Same as OECS 212.
BOT 211. Information Processing I3 cr. (2+2P)
Defining and applying fundamental information processing concepts and techniques using the current version of leading software. Prerequisite: keyboarding proficiency.
BOT 212. Legal Office Procedures II3 cr. (2+2P)
A continuation of BOT 201 with advanced study of legal practices. Prerequisites: BOT 201. Same as OELA 212.
BOT 213. Word Processing I3 cr. (2+3P)
Operation and function of a word processor. Specific equipment to be announced in the Schedule of Classes. Prerequisite: BOT 101 or consent of instructor.
BOT 214. Word Processing II3 cr. (2+3P)
Advanced operation and functions of a word processor. Specific equipment to be announced in the Schedule of Classes. Prerequisite: BOT213 or consent of instructor.
BOT 215. Spreadsheet Applications1-3 cr.
Same as OECS 215. May be repeated under different subtitles listed in the Schedule of Classes.
BOT 218. Information Processing II3 cr. (2+2P)
Advanced information processing techniques using current version of leading software. Prerequisite: BOT 211 or consent of instructor.
BOT 219. Information Processing III3 cr. (2+2P)
Advanced information processing integrating databases, spreadsheets, and other applications in a network environment. Prerequisite: BOT 218 or consent of instructor.
BOT 220. Internship in Business Office Technology2 cr.
Experience in a supervised office position. Student must work at least eight hours per week. Prerequisites: sophomore standing and consent of instructor. May be repeated for a maximum of 4 credits.
BOT 221. Cooperative Experience I1-3 cr.
Practical training and personal development which is compatible with the major field of study and career goals of the student. Student is employed at an approved site and is evaluated by the supervisor and instructor. Prerequisite: BOT 102, BOT 110, and BOT 211 and consent of instructor. May be repeated for a maximum of 6 credits. Graded S/U.
BOT 222. Cooperative Experience II1-3 cr.
Continuation of BOT 221. Prerequisites: BOT 221 and consent of instructor. Graded S/U.
BOT 223. Medical Transcription3 cr. (2+2P)
Machine transcription for the medical office using medical terminology. Prerequisites: OEHO 120, BOT 109, and BOT 211, or consent of instructor.
BOT 238. Office Management3 cr.
Analysis and control of various office procedures; automation; human relations problems; work simplification, systems analysis; management viewpoint emphasized.
BOT 239. Personal Development3 cr.
Development of a marketable, employable office systems person, to include interview, voice, manners, and apparel.
BOT 255. Special Topics1-4 cr.

BOT 280. Desktop Publishing Techniques I3 cr. (2+2P)
Same as OECS 280.
BOT 281. Desktop Publishing II3 cr. (2+2P)
Continuation of BOT 280. Refining skills using desktop publishing software. Prerequisite: BOT 280 or equivalent. Same as OECS 281.
BOT 285. Drawing for Computer Graphics3 cr. (2+2P)
Preparing computer graphics through a draw program for use in advertising, publications, and multimedia presentations. Prerequisite: working knowledge of Windows environment or consent of instructor.
BOT 290. Prepress Image Processing3 cr.
Techniques in using digital editing program for computer graphic design. Preparation of images for advertisements, publications, multi-media presentations and World Wide Web. Prerequisite: BOT 280 or consent of instructor.
BOT 298. Independent Study1-3 cr.
Individual studies directed by consenting faculty with prior approval of department head. Prerequisite: sophomore standing with 3.0 GPA. May be repeated for a maximum of 3 credits.
