The mechanical engineering program prepares students for a wide range of professional engineering positions. Career areas include manufacturing and design, product development, project engineering, technical sales, research and many others. Because of this diversity of employment opportunities, the emphasis in the curriculum is on a broad based educational experience. All mechanical engineering students take courses in solid mechanics, thermal sciences, engineering analysis, fluid mechanics, and engineering design. A student can tailor a program to meet specific career goals by selecting mechanical engineering elective courses from specific areas. A minimum grade-point average of 2.0 in mechanical engineering courses is required for graduation.
