CTFM 171. Clothing and Human Behavior3 cr.

Interrelationships of clothing and behavior from aspects of culture, social, psychological, and economic. Open to nonmajor men and women.

CTFM 178. Fundamentals of Fashion3 cr.

Survey of the fashion business from fiber to end product.

CTFM 200. Special Topics1-4 cr.

Specific subjects and credits to be announced in the Schedule of Classes. Maximum of 4 credits per semester and a total of 9 credits toward a degree.

CTFM 255. Applied Clothing Design3 cr.

Application of art principles in the study of clothing, emphasizing fashion terminology, for the application of clothing selection to personal and client use.

CTFM 270. Fashion Illustration3 cr. (1+4P)

Human figure sketches and fashion illustration as a form of communication. Emphasis on color, proportion, cut, and fabric detail. Prerequisites: CTFM 255, ART 110G.

CTFM 273. Concepts in Apparel Construction3 cr. (1+4P)

Application of generalizations and principles of garment construction to varied fabrics and designs. Analysis and evaluation of apparel merchandise with emphasis on the quality of garment construction.

CTFM 300. Special Topics1-4 cr.

CTFM 333. Apparel Production3 cr.

Investigation of the procedures involved in garment manufacturing, with implications for computer-aided design and manufacturing applications. Prerequisites: CTFM 178, CS 110G or equivalent, and CTFM 273

CTFM 364. Historic Fashion IAncient to 17003 cr.

A study of the clothing worn and produced by and for families from ancient times to 1700. Prerequisite: CTFM 171. Corequisite: CTFM 371 or consent of instructor.

CTFM 365. Historic Fashion II1700 to Present3 cr.

A study of the clothing worn and produced by and for families from 1700 to present. Prerequisite: CTFM 364 or consent of instructor.

CTFM 371. Textiles Science3 cr. (1+4P)

Study of fabrics used for modern clothing, furnishings, and miscellaneous end uses. Textiles testing procedures explored. Prerequisites: CHEM 110G or consent of instructor.

CTFM 372. Fashion Merchandising3 cr.

The apparel industry from designing through manufacturing and distribution to retailers. Prerequisites: CTFM 171, CTFM 178, and CTFM 255.

CTFM 384. Clothing for Special Needs3 cr.

Selection, adaptation, and design of clothing that is functional and attractive for special needs populations such as for active sportswear, the handicapped, the elderly, and various specialty populations. Prerequisite: consent of instructor.

CTFM 402. Field ExperienceMarketing Training1-6 cr.

Practical experience in clothing manufacturing or retailing. Supervised by resident faculty and supervisor at the work site. Report required. Open to majors only. Prerequisite: CTFM 372 or consent of instructor.

CTFM 470. Fashion Trend Analysis3 cr.

Exploration of various sociocultural factors that influence the consumer's acceptance or rejection of fashion trends past. Current and future patterns identified, described, and analyzed. Prerequisite: junior, senior, graduate standing, or consent of instructor.

CTFM 472. Flat Pattern Design3 cr. (1+4P)

Adaptation of standard patterns to individual proportions, designing through the medium of flat pattern. Prerequisites: CTFM 255, CTFM 273, or consent of instructor.

CTFM 473. Tailoring3 cr. (1+4P)

Principles of tailoring applied to traditional and contemporary methods of construction. Prerequisite: CTFM 273.

CTFM 474. Fashion Promotion3 cr.

Application of media to the communication of clothing information to the public. Prerequisite: CTFM 372 or consent of instructor.

CTFM 475. Fashion Buying3 cr.

Fundamental principles and procedures for successful merchandising of fashion goods, responsibilities of buyers, fashion trends, consumer demands, and merchandising arithmetic. Prerequisites: ACCT 201, CTFM 372, and CTFM 474.

CTFM 476. Apparel Design by Draping3 cr. (1+4P)

Theory and application of design in various fabrics and styles using three-dimensional forms in solving problems and developing designs. Prerequisites: CTFM 261 and CTFM 273.

CTFM 482. Creative Clothing Design3 cr. (1+4P)

Application of flat pattern and draping techniques in the design of apparel. Prerequisites: CTFM 472, CTFM 476, or consent of instructor.

CTFM 489. Fashion Markets2 cr.

Investigation of fashion merchandising activities through market visits in major fashion centers. Supervised by resident faculty. A report is required. Prerequisite: CTFM 372 or consent of instructor. May be repeated for additional credit.

CTFM 492. Special Problems1-4 cr.

Individual research study in a selected subject area of home economics. Maximum of 4 credits per semester and a total of 6 credits toward a degree.
