Move In Day Information
Move-In Dates and Times
Fall Semester Move In - Sunday, August 17, 2008. 9:00am to 6:00pm
Move-In Day marks the beginning of college life for many students. Our goal is to make this day as easy and as enjoyable as possible for everyone. Your first step will be to check-in at the residence hall or community to which you have been assigned. We are looking forward to your arrival on campus!
Special note for parents: We recognize that this is a significant day for your student and for you. You are welcome to say as long as you like, but try to keep in mind that your student will want time on their own to make new friends, explore, get acquainted with a roommate, etc. We are looking forward to meeting you and your family!
Early/Late Arrival or Assistance on Move-In Day
Early Arrival: Early check-in requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please email your request to housing@nmsu.edu by July 31, 2008 to ensure consideration. Early arrival may require payment of a nightly rate from the date of check-in until opening day. Please note that summer school, summer conferences and our facility cleaning schedule all impact our ability to accommodate early arrivals.
Late Arrival: If you will be arriving after the first day of classes, please notify our office to ensure your space is held for you. When you arrive on campus, report directly to your area office.
Students or Families Needing Assistance: If you are handicapped or need assistance during Move-In Day, please call the Housing Office at (575) 646-3202 to make arrangements.

Enjoy a brief session in a therapeutic massage chair to help loosen those knotted muscles.
Free Child Care
For many students, Move-In Day is a family affair. Summer temperatures and the excitement of the day can be difficult for small children and their families. Free short-term child care will be available in Pinon Hall for children between the ages of 5 and 12. Supervised activities, fun & snacks will be provided to keep the younger members of the family occupied while students and families complete the transition to campus living. Please email the Housing Office at housing@nmsu.edu if you anticipate using this service. Parents should be prepared to present a photo ID and a working cell phone number.
Check-In
Students, once you arrive, please proceed to the check-in station at your assigned residence hall. If you brought family members with you, have them begin unloading your vehicle while you check-in. Please be sure to bring your picture ID with you. Your room and building keys will be issued to you at this time. All students are required to have an official NMSU ID Card. While any picture ID will work for check-in, you must have your NMSU Student ID Card if you are living in Garcia Hall because your ID card is also your room key. NMSU ID cards are issued though the NMSU ID Card Office. Avoid delays by obtaining your NMSU ID Card before you arrive on campus.
