THE COLLEGE ADVISING CENTER

LOCATION: The Advising Center for the College of Health & Social Services is located in the Educational Services Center, Room 8. It is open from 8am to 5 pm each day when the University is in session.

The college advising process is designed in two parts: Pre-major advising in all three disciplines and faculty advising once a student is admitted to their chosen major. Admission to each of our majors is competitive, requiring special applications (available from the pre-major advisors in the Dean's office) and prescribed prerequisite course work. All students start with a pre-major status. Once admitted to a major, advising is provided by the faculty of the major. Students admitted to the University on a provisional basis are advised in this college prior to declaring a major in any academic college of the university.

All students (new freshman or transfer students) who are interested in pursuing the Bachelor in Nursing (BSN), the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW), the Bachelor of Community Health (BCH) or the Bachelor of Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) are admitted to NMSU and the College of Health & Social Services as pre-majors (PNUR, PSWK, PCHL, PEOH.).

Registered nurses (R.N.) who have an Associate Degree in Nursing and who would like to apply for the Bachelor Completion Program, should contact the Nursing department directly.

Students who have a Bachelor Degree and wish to pursue a Masters Degree in any of our three departments, should contact the department (Nursing, Social Work, Health Science) directly for more information and can link to the Graduate School for an application and catalog. (Nursing, Social Work, Health Science)

Each of our majors requires a separate and specific application and a list of specific prerequisite courses that must be completed before the student will be considered for admission to the major of their choice.
