Finding A Place To Work Or To Meet Information and Scheduling for HSS 329 & 331

Photos of meetings rooms in HSS...

NOTE: These rooms will no longer be available after Summer Session II begins. To accommodate incoming faculty, these rooms will be turned into offices by the CHSS Dean. If you need similar rooms and would prefer to conduct your meeting in the HSS building, please consider booking either HSS 214 (no shades) or HSS 314.

Students, staff and faculty who need a place for a small group meeting (up to six people), conduct a oral examination or thesis defense presentation, or just want a place to study or view videos may want to reserve one of three rooms, located across from the Media and Resource Center. On the third floor of the Health and Social Services Building, these rooms are equipped with comfortable chairs, roomy tables, a TV and VCR/DVD-combo unit for viewing videos.

Faculty and staff members can call or email ahead with their reservation; we can provide access during our regular operating hours. Students may also call or email ahead but at least one person in their group, if not a faculty or staff member, must present a valid NMSU ID card to be held in the Media & Resource Center until the room has completed their use of the room. Individuals are welcome to use the room for studying, as well. Please restrict beverage consumption, in these rooms, to bottled or tap water; please do not consume other beverages or food items while in these rooms.

You will check in at the main desk of the Media & Resource Center, HSS 326, to gain access to the room.

While there are Ethernet ports in both rooms and wireless accessibility, there is limited technology for presentations left in these rooms. If you have a laptop, we have provided AverKey units that can connect such portable computers to the 32" televisions installed in the rooms. Presenters and/or guests needing other equipment may need to make additional arrangements (hosts should make appropriate inquiries, with adequate lead time, to the MRC or other appropriate parties).

Keys for these rooms may be retrieved from the MRC after a confirmed reservation has been made, by NMSU/CHSS faculty or staff via the HSS Room Scheduling Form). Students wishing to use these rooms for club or organizational meetings can do so after club/organizational sponsors have verified their contact status.

Question: Why isn't HSS 333 mentioned or shown?
Answer: HSS 333 is being used as an office at this time and is not available for use as a meeting room.

Scheduling A Room

    HSS Room Schedules
    • Click on the "question mark" next to the link above for instructions. The help file is provided in the Adobe Acrobat PDF format.
    • The above links provides an up-to-the-minute view but only to read/view. If you wish to reserve a room, please note the following:
      • Requests for HSS 329 and 331 are processed by the Media & Resource Center using our standard form. After completing the form, a staff member will manually place it on the web-based calendar and will then send a confirmation note. This is not an automated process; the listing of your request that is shown when you "submit" your request is just that: a listing, not an actual confirmation.
      • Additional notes and caveats are presented at the top of the Reservation Form page.
      • To request the use of the "Health Science Conference Rm. HSS 318A", please click to send an email to the Department of Health Science.
      • To request the use of the "Dean's Conference Room" (HSS 310J), the First Floor Memorial Tower Lounge, or the Memorial Tower Room 3rd Floor, please click to send an email to the Dean's Office.

Oral Examination Presentation

Alert! Oral Examination preparations!

If you are an MPH, MSN or MSW student who is completing their degree and will be participating in an oral examination or presentation as part of the degree completion (such as a thesis defense), you may contact the Media & Resource Center via email after conferring with your committee chair to find out what arrangements must be made to secure one of these rooms. At the very least, complete the HSS Room Reservation Form and include your committee chair person in the "Other" field. A copy of the partially completed "Masters Candidacy Form" is required to fully confirm any room reservation. Please do not wait to the last minute or assume that advisors and/or committee chairs will complete such arrangements on your behalf.

If you have a laptop, we have provided AverKey units that can connect such portable computers to the 32" televisions installed in the rooms. With a confirmed oral examination reservation, we will expect that we provide a Windows XP Pro-based laptop computer and a compatible wireless pointer at least 30 minutes before you begin your presentation. You can load your PowerPoint presentation from a USB flash drive (floppy disks are not generally available on our laptops; if you need assistance, please bring your presentation to the MRC at least 12 hours before your presentation. Since these rooms are quite small, there is not adequate space to set up a projected image that will be any larger than what you would get with the 36" television. This service is only available through the use of HSS 329, HSS 331 or the reservation of the appropriate portable TV/VCR setup.

If you wish for a larger space, you may consider the slightly larger Reading/Seminar Rooms. Note the comments about equipment availability on that page before you select one of those rooms for a presentation requiring technology. Neither HSS 214 nor 314 has no built-in computers or projectors for presentations.
