Student-initiated Access to the CHSS Media & Resource Center

Student-initiated includes the use of the Computer Center, 12 computers which any students can use. Students may use the reading, study and computer areas whenver the MRC is open and they have a confirmed appointment (to ensure that productions are not in progress).

Printing and photocopying services are not available at this time.

Students initiate their use of the center by calling or emailing the main MRC desk. If the staff is occupied with production or assistive tasks, we are unable to honor walk-ins for the purpose of making the appointments. The wide range of equipment and facilities are available to the students after they are familiar with the services. Some uses, such as check-out "projectors" and check-out "laptop computers", requiring advance training or consultation; additionally, these additional services require that the student to leave their NMSU identification card before gaining access to a resource or room.

  • Use of the Computer Center (some students have additional privileges). Printing is 5¢ per page and covers consumable supplies used in the student printing. Students interested in non-self-service duplication to create handouts for use in class should inquire in person about any available services and costs involved.
  • Use of reading area
  • Use of meeting rooms
  • Use of study tables
  • Use of DVD or VHS viewing stations
  • Use of fee-based large format printer, as required by a professor or sponsored project. Students completing a required poster project should inquire about departmental coverage of the cost of printing; otherwise a minimum of $15 per poster per printing will charged (difference sizes, printing media and finish will have differing costs).
  • Request for scheduled training in the use of equipment before use. Can also include instruction on more effective use, such as PowerPoint, etc.
  • Viewing and/or borrowing of nursing and other departmental- or discipline-specific videos

I don't know where to go...If you are not sure where to go to get answers to production-related questions, please try the "Services" menu. If you are from a department or entity outside of the College of Health & Social Services, try the CHSS Multimedia Production and Distance Education Support link.

*The staff begins its workday at 8 am; the time from 8 - 8:30 am is devoted to getting the center ready for student use. Some services, such as pickup of reserved equipment or the use of one or more the 3 MRC Meeting Rooms, may require the staff to attend to students or faculty earlier than 8:30 am; these services require advance notice.

Discipline-specific services available

For Nursing and Social Work students who need to use the Genogram Maker Millenium

MSW and BSW practice testing is available on a "confirmed appointment" basis, as well. Designated computers have to be prepared to allow the MRC staff to get the testing equipment ready. Additionally, to borrow the study guides for reading and studying while in the MRC, students must present their actual NMSU I.D.

The MRC will only be available to students on a "confirmed appointment" basis.

HSS faculty and staff should call the MRC prior to heading to the Center during normal business hours to ensure availability of staff member(s). If staff members are involved in a multimedia production or otherwise unavailable, the phone will be set to "message-only" mode, indicating that the staff cannot assist at that time.

Oral Examination Room Reservation

Alert! Oral Examination preparations!

If you are an HSS Masters (MSN, MSW, MPH) student who is completing their degree and will be participating in an oral examination or presentation as part of the degree completion (such as a thesis defense), please contact the Media & Resource Center via email to finalize arrangements to secure rooms and equipment. At the very least, complete the HSS Room Reservation Form and include your committee chair person in the "Other" field. A copy of the partially completed "Masters Candidacy Form" is required to fully confirm any room reservation. Please do not wait to the last minute or assume that advisors and/or committee chairs will complete such arrangements on your behalf.
