Work with Faculty, Staff & NMSU administration: Chicano Programs collaborates with faculty, staff and the administration at NMSU on many issues related to diversity. Serving the educational needs of the diverse population of the state of New Mexico is a vital aspect of NMSU’s Land-Grant Mission. Therefore, Chicano Programs advocates for the educational needs of the Hispanic/Chicano populace of the state of New Mexico. The department works in collaboration with other entities to improve outreach to our communities and to our potential students and their families.
We are not “Chicano Studies” (an academic program). Chicano Programs however, does work with “Chicano Studies” on a variety of efforts. The Chair of “Chicano Studies” is Dr. Spencer Herrera in the Department of Languages & Linguistics at NMSU. His e-mail is spencer@nmsu.edu.
