William B. Conroy was named Executive Vice President in
1985. Dr. Conroy was appointed Interim President in July
1994 and served until July 1995, when he returned to the
position of Executive Vice President. In June 1997, Dr.
Conroy was appointed President of New Mexico State University.
He served until June 30, 2000.
Dr. Conroy has an extensive background in liberal arts and
education. He received a B.A. in History from the University
of Notre Dame and obtained his M.A. in Education and his
Ph.D. in Social Science from Syracuse University. Dr. Conroy
held teaching positions at the University of Texas and
at the University of Washington before joining the faculty
at Texas Tech University, where he served as Dean of the
College of Arts and Sciences.
