Before returning to his native Southwest in July 1995 to
become president of NMSU, J. Michael Orenduff was chancellor
of the seven-campus University of Maine System for two
years. He previously had been president of the University
of Maine at Farmington, 1988-93, and interim president of
the American University in Bulgaria during 1992-93. Orenduff
earned his doctorate in philosophy at Tulane University.
