Campos
To NMSU alumna Tammie Campos 86 89 96 this years Homecoming is not just a celebration for the university, but a personal homecoming as well.
Thats because Campos is the new executive director of New Mexico State Universitys Alumni Association, an opportunity she started in September.
As alumni, we have the privilege and responsibility to support the university vision to provide educational opportunities for future generations, promote research and extension services, engage in our community, and support the economic development of the state, Campos says. I am honored to serve my university and look forward to working with other Aggies to promote university goals and celebrate the successes of NMSU.
Campos brings a wealth of experience and Aggie enthusiasm to her new position. A Las Cruces native, Campos has worked in higher education in the Southwest for more than 20 years and comes to NMSU from the University of Texas El Paso, where she served in numerous capacities, including institutional research and planning, enrollment services, student affairs, and most recently as the assistant dean of students. Campos also has worked extensively on the NMSU campus, serving as adjunct faculty in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences and working in institutional research.
The new executive director has a long history with NMSU. All three of her degrees are from NMSU; her bachelors and masters degrees are in clothing, textiles and fashion merchandising and her doctorate is in educational management and development.
Many in her family are proud Aggies as well. In fact, 17 family members, in three generations, are NMSU alumni. Her husband, Hector, and eldest son, Dominic, also are NMSU alumni, and her youngest son, Jiovanni, recently stared school at the Early College High School, located in the Arrowhead Business and Research Park on the NMSU campus.
As executive director, Campos will support advancement of the university, provide support to the NMSU Alumni Association and its chapters and coordinate alumni efforts with the different colleges. She also will work to engage students, alumni and friends of NMSU in programs and networks to help establish lifelong relationships with the university.
Campos says she is most looking forward to the people aspect of her new position.
There are thousands of NMSU graduates and friends who have amazing stories to tell about how the university provided the foundation needed for their careers and personal goals. I am looking forward to sharing the NMSU spirit and pride with my fellow Aggies, she says.
Even with all of her personal and professional experiences, Campos still attributes her success to the education she received from NMSU.
NMSU provided me with a world-class education and the foundation to succeed. I have experienced the impact a college education can make to New Mexicans and their families, and the students who come from all over the world to study at NMSU. I sincerely respect and appreciate the NMSU mission to teach, research, extend knowledge and serve the state of New Mexico, she says.
