For close to six decades, the New Mexico State University Alumni Association has honored top graduates from across the university system based on their scholarship, leadership and participation in the life of the university and community. Many of these honorees have gone on to accomplish much in life.

Darren Phillips

J.B. Pruett ’62

Las Cruces
College of Agricultural, Consumer and
Environmental Sciences

J.B. Pruett earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science from NMSU and went on to work as a university faculty member, the vice president of a ranch and president of a construction company. He’s now retired and enjoys traveling with his wife.

Kim Walker

Neil Bromilow ’69

Elon, N.C.
College of Engineering

Neil Bromilow served 20 years as an engineer in the U.S. Navy after graduating with a bachelor’s in civil engineering from NMSU. He is now director of planning, design and construction at Elon University in North Carolina.

Tony Bennett

Steve Neville ’72 ’74

Farmington, N.M.
College of Agricultural, Consumer and
Environmental Sciences

Steve Neville earned dual bachelor’s degrees in animal science and agronomy as well as a master’s in animal sciences from NMSU. He also minored in economics. He originally worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, but is now a real estate appraiser and a state senator.

Kelly Neville Heck ’99

Laramie, Wyo.
College of Business/College of Arts and Science

Kelly Neville Heck received dual bachelor’s degrees from NMSU in international business and foreign languages. She also minored in international relations and Spanish. She’s now a practicing attorney.

Chelsea Bilberry ’10

Artesia, N.M.
New Mexico State University Carlsbad

Chelsea Bilberry studied nursing at NMSU Carlsbad, receiving an associate’s degree. She now works as an emergency room nurse at Carlsbad Medical Center and a nurse in the medical/surgical unit at Artesia General Hospital.
