Student-athlete Jamar Hassan Cotton plays hard on and off the field.

When Jamar Hassan Cotton moved from New Jersey to New Mexico, the six-foot linebacker was looking for a place that would allow him to focus on what was important.

“At NMSU, I’m able to get things done. The professors give me the tools to succeed inside and outside the classroom, and provide extra help and resources if I need it.”

Cotton is a junior majoring in early childhood education. He is a Crimson and White Honor Society member and the 2007 top performing male athlete for his community service work. He also was on the College of Education Dean’s List for fall 2007.

He is involved with Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Alpha Beta Pi Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., among other organizations.

“NMSU is great. It has a diverse and caring atmosphere.”
