As the sixth topic in our exploration of the Seven Steps to Success in my bi-weekly letters to NMSU faculty and staff, let's think together about how we can focus our international reach to prepare students for a global society and expand our land-grant teaching and research missions.

In the last issue of this publication we discussed the goal of increasing support for our institution. One of the things such increased support can do is create new opportunities for our students to have an international academic experience. read more...

    The New Mexico State University Alamogordo campus is excited to offer a new program for students wishing to become certified in vocational training.

    In October the campus played hosts to a ribbon-cutting/grand opening ceremony for the new Advanced Technology Center. NMSU President Barbara Couture attended, as did Alamogordo Mayor Ron Griggs, while NMSU-A President Cheri Jimeno opened the ceremonies.

    The Advanced Technology Center will house instruction for automotive trades, alternative energies and welding. The facility offers trade-school courses without the trade school." read more...

    A New Mexico State University professor spent a week in Chicago this fall for "Ocho Poetas," a gathering of a select group of eight Latino poets who also are editors and/or publishers. Assistant Professor of English Carmen Gimenez Smith is not only a poet and editor-in-chief of NMSU's literary journal Puerto del Sol, but also a publisher of Noemi Press, which publishes poetry and fiction.  read more...
