General Information: Collops are a beneficial insect found in cotton and other crops. Adults may be found feeding on pollen but they also eat lygus, leafhoppers, chinch bugs other insects and insect eggs and larva. Collops larva live in ground litter and feed on other insects.
Description: Collops are most easily recognized by red markings on their wing covers that form a cross. Their head, abdomen and legs are brownish black. There are several related species that are similar in general appearance but with different markings. Adults are approximately 1/4 inch long.
Life Cycle: Little is known.
