What is Oracle Java Initiator (JInitiator) and why is it important to Banner?
The Oracle Java Initiator (JInitiator) is used for connectivity between a Windows or Mac based client and Oracle Applications forms. It is a Java application that is downloaded and installed on your PC and allows you to interact with the Banner System.
Are you using Internet Explorer, version 5.5 or better?
Version 5.5 and above is required when using Internet Explorer. To find out the version of Internet Explorer, choose "Help", and select "About..."
Are the POP-ups disabled?
In order for Internet Explorer to download JInitiator automatically, you need to disable "Pop-up" blocking. To do this, go to "Tools","Pop Up Blocker", and select "OFF"
After you've successfully installed JInitiator, you can turn Pop-up blocking back on. To do this, go to "Tools" ,"Pop Up Blocker", and select "ON".
Are the setting set up for default?
In Internet Explorer, go to "Tools", "Internet Options". Click on the "Advanced" tab choose "Restore Defaults".
May have to lower security
You may need to lower the security settings in IE. To to this, go to "Tools", "Internet Options", click on the "Security" tab and then click on "Custom Level...". At the bottom of "Security Settings" dialogue box, choose "Low" from the drop-down menu.
After you've successfully installed JInitiator, you can set your security s ettings back to the original settings.
Have you downloaded JInitiator?
Look for the folder "C:\Program Files\Oracle". (how do I do this?)
If this folder does not exist, then JInitiator has not been downloaded.
If the folder does exist, please make sure it is version 1.3.1.18.
Downloading JInitiator
With dial up, download time for JInitiator is up to one hour.
With standard DSL, download will take approximately five minutes.
If you get a green screen only
JInitiator is not installed or not working properly. Verify that you have downloaded and installed the correct version of JInitiator.
If you get a green screen followed by a white screen
This means JInitiator is running and your connectivity to the web server is intermittent – check network routing and traffic.
If you have confirmed that there are no network problems, you may need to reinstall JInitiator.
Screen goes green, white, then gray
This indicates connectivity is established; you should get a login prompt.
If you cannot get to the login prompt, try another database instance to see if you can reproduce the problem.
If you continue to experience problems downloading or running JInitiator, please contact the ICT Help Desk.
