First Leadership Summit

We take this opportunity to thank all of you who attended the First Leadership Summit on Monday, March 15, 2010 in Corbett Center.  The theme of this year's Summit was "Conexiones y Lecciones:  Educating Tomorrow's Leaders".  Over 170 individuals pre-registered for the Summit, while more than 190 people attended the Summit.   Attendees included NMSU and DACC faculty, staff, students and community members from Las Cruces.  We are grateful that Melanie Goodman from U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman's Office, Dolores Archuleta, former Las Cruces Mayor Pro Temp, and Gilbert Apodaca, President of the Hispano Chamber of Commerce de Las Cruces, joined us all day.  Virginia Hernandez graciously served as our official photographer.  Students from ENLACE and the Government Department volunteered throughout the day to help make the Summit a success.

Former Governor Toney Anaya gave an inspiring speech at our luncheon.  Other speakers included Regent Javier Gonzales, Regent Chris Anaya, President Barbara Couture, Provost Jay Jordan, Dr. Ricardo Jacquez, President Margie Huerta (DACC), and President Cheri Jimeno (NMSU-Alamogordo).  In addition, many distinguished faculty and student leaders  served as panelists. All of our panels were successful and well attended.  A reception was be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the O'Donnell Hall Atrium.  Melanie Goodman from Senator Bingaman's office, Art Terrazas from Congressman Harry Teague's office, Senator Stephen Fischmann, Senator Mary Jane Garcia, Senator Mary Kay Papen. and Rep. Joni Gutierrez were presented with Certificates of Appreciation at the reception.  We appreciate the hard work of all our elected officials.  Finally, we also thank Paul Gutierrez, Margie Huerta, Ricardo Jacquez, and Margie Huerta for their financial support, which enabled us to host a very successful Summit.  The program is shown below.
