Throughout FY 2010-2011, several of our members are recognized or honored by NMSU and external entities.  Here are some of our faculty that were honored this year:

CYNTHIA BEJARANO

March 15, 2011

Dr. Cynthia Bejarano has won the Critical Educators in Social Justice (CESJ) Special
Interest Group's Community Advocacy Award. CESJ is part of the American Educational
Research Association. Dr. Bejarano received the award during the AERA Conference in
New Orleans in April 2011.

 

HERMAN GARCIA

Sept. 29, 2010

New Mexico Highlands names NMSU professor 2010 Distinguished Alumnus
Hermán S. García has been selected as Distinguished Alumni and will be recognized at
this year's homecoming event at New Mexico Highlands University Sept. 29 - Oct. 2.
García graduated from Highlands in 1975 and has had a long and impressive teaching
career. He currently serves as Regent's Professor and director of elementary
education for the College of Education.

CARLOS POSADAS

January 11, 2011

Carlos Posadas received the Donald C. Roush Excellence in Teaching Award at NMSU's
Convocation! Many of us know of his many contributions to NMSU. We are glad that he
has been formally recognized by NMSU. Also receiving this award were Shannon
Vallejos, Nursing, NMSU-Carlsbad and Joaquin Tadeo, DACC.

IVELISSE TORRES-FERNANDEZ

New Mexico State University celebrated the achievements of faculty and staff members
during its fall 2010 convocation ceremony, held this year during the inauguration of
NMSU President Barbara Couture. Ivelisse Torres-Fernandez was awarded the Patricia
Christmore Teaching Award. The award recognizes and rewards superb junior
tenure-track faculty members for excellence in teaching. Torres-Fernandez is an
assistant professor in the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology. She
currently supervises seven students in the implementation of the Strong Kids
Curriculum, an innovative program that enriches the social and emotional development
of children in schools.
