Hi, I am Jaime Guerra. I am an undergraduate at New Mexico State University and a proud participant in the RISE Program. The spring semester of 2006, I had the opportunity to go to Costa Rica to study Yellow-naped Amazon Parrots with a graduate student.

Jaime Guerra of NMSU's RISE Program found a really, really interesting place to study.

This was a 3-month stint in the field in the tropical dry forests of Costa Rica.

The Classroom Experience

It taught me a lot about what it means to be a field biologist and even though it was tough at times, it was a rewarding experience overall and a memorable one at that.

Outdoor Classroom Experience With the financial support from the RISE Program, I was able to get paid while studying Yellow-naped Amazon Parrots in Costa Rica. Although not all of you will want to choose the route of ornithology, the RISE Program should still be the program you choose to partake in. I mean look at what it did for me: 3 months paid in Costa Rica.
