Welcome to New Mexico State University
It's an exciting time to join New Mexico State University. I am proud to be serving as interim president for the next several months, while the Board of Regents goes through the process of selecting a new president for NMSU.
New Mexico State University is a land-grant institution with a long history of providing an outstanding education to the people of the state of New Mexico. This year has seen record enrollment of more than 31,000 students.
Research at NMSU is thriving and growing. Our total sponsored research awards have increased by 9 percent over the previous year, from $152 million to $166 million, and research funding increased by almost 28 percent from 2005-2008. This success helps us recruit and retain high-caliber faculty and students and enhances the quality of the undergraduate and graduate educational experience.
Land-grant universities are of particular interest to me because they benefit the entire state. More than 650 thousand residents a year benefit from NMSU's cooperative extension services.
NMSU athletics has excelled in academics as well as sports. In the past year, two thirds of our student athletes achieved a cumulative 3.0 GPA while two teams, Women's Volleyball and Men's Golf, won WAC Championships.
