Faculty convocation was held Aug. 16. This fall we welcomed three new Regents professors, Sonya Cooper from engineering technology, Jeffery Arterburn from chemistry and biochemistry and Jim Schearer from music.

Six professors from the College of Arts and Sciences received funding for their research from the S.P. Manasse and Margaret Manasse Endowed Fund; they are John B. Wright from the Department of Geography; Harriet Linkin from the Department of English; Jerry Ann Alt from the Department of Music; Peter Houde from the Department of Biology; James Ni from the Department of Physics; and Laura A. Thompson from the Department of Psychology.

New Associate Dean

Mark Andersen has been named associate dean of New Mexico State University's Honors College. As part of his appointment, he also will serve as director of the college's Office of National Scholarships and International Education.

Professional Award from ACE

Standing at the crossroads of agriculture, communication and technology is the head of Media Productions, who was recently recognized for her efforts in innovation and collaboration. Jeanne Gleason, an NMSU extension professor, received the Professional Award from the Association for Communication Excellence in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Life and Human Sciences (ACE). The award is the association's top career award for professionalism as an agricultural communicator.

Aggie Spirit Game Day Experience Task Force

The university has developed an Aggie Spirit Game Day Experience Task Force, which will center on ways to build community around our athletic events. The group chaired by Athletics Director McKinley Boston will have appointees from every sector of our university, including our student body. The object is to find ways to bring us together in support not only of student athletes, but of the whole university community.
