Monday Morning Memo

Dear NMSU Community:

Good morning! After many months of planning and anticipation, Homecoming is here! This is a time when we celebrate our treasured alumni and help our current students continue to build their Aggie Pride. Let's take advantage of this opportunity to showcase the best our institution has to offer and to welcome back great Aggies and their families.

The NMSU Alumni Association takes the lead in our celebration of Homecoming 2008, with the theme "Rockin' with Aggie Pride." Activities take place Wednesday-Sunday, with numerous alumni events and the Aggie Homecoming football game against Boise State highlighting the full schedule, which you can find at http://alum.nmsu.edu.

Other events include:
Tuesday, October 28
ASNMSU Halloween Carnival from 6-8:00 p.m. behind the Activity Center at the intramural fields; and a free showing of the movie, "Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull " at 9 p.m. at the Aggie Memorial Stadium.

Thursday, October 30
8th Annual Danny Villanueva Scholarship Breakfast
from 7:30-9:30 a.m. in the Corbett Center Student Union ballrooms; Reunion Dinners for the classes of 1948, 1958 and 1968 from 6:30-8 p.m.; ASNMSU's Bonfire and Pep Rally at 7 p.m., which will include fireworks and a concert by the NMSU Pride Band, and the Moonshiners will open for Pat Green, south of the Fulton Center; and the NMSU Women's Volleyball Team vs. Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m.

Friday, October 31
Aggie Events for distinguished alumni in the colleges of Agriculture and Home Economics, Education, Health and Social Services and Engineering; the Alumni Association's Distinguished Alumni Dinner (for all colleges) from 5-7 p.m. in the Corbett Center ballrooms; and a Cowboy Dance at 8 p.m. at the Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, sponsored by the College of Agriculture and Home Economics. All alumni and friends are welcome.

Saturday, November 1
Homecoming Parade, which will start on University Avenue by the Pan American Center at 10 a.m. and will continue west until reaching Knox Street, past Skeen Hall; ASNMSU's Alumni Luncheon for all who served in ASNMSU at 11:30 a.m. in the Conroy Honors Center; and NMSU Dona Ana Community College's Distinguished Alumni Reception from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. In preparation for the football game at 5 p.m., an Alumni and Friends Tailgate Party will be held at 3 p.m. next to Parking Lot A.

Sunday, November 2
Alumni Association's First Annual Alumni Golf Tournament
at 8 a.m.

It's a great time to celebrate all the NMSU traditions and to honor our alumni, so please join us for Homecoming! I look forward to seeing you.

On October 18, NMSU and the Navajo Agriculture Products Industry (NAPI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish the NAPI Scholars Program. This collaboration will assist in developing a pipeline to return academically prepared tribal students to the Navajo Nation's largest economic enterprise.

Far left is Al Berryman, Director of the NMSU Center for Insurance and Financial Services in the College of Business. Al was attending the IIANM (Independent Insurance Agents of NM) convention in Albuquerque. He and others at the conference joined in on the James Bond theme. The IIANM donates $10,000 in scholarships to the insurance program each year.

Interim President Waded Cruzado speaks to members of the Interstate Migrant Education Council at a meeting held at the NMSU CAMP offices Sept. 30. IMEC is based in Washington, D.C., and its members represent State Migrant Educators, University Boards of Regents, and other migrant educators.
