Reminder: Annual Update of Emergency Action Plans
As part of the Fall 2010 safety initiative we will be conducting building evacuations, i.e 'No notice fire drills' September 7 - 10, 2010 (see 2010 Safety Health and Security Initiatives). Departments are reminded to update and post their Emergency Action Plans (EAP). This plan is established to provide information on what employees are expected to do in an emergency and where to go in an evacuation. Departments should establish their internal phone tree and email list. The plan should also identify how information, such as alerts and warnings, will be disseminated to others under your supervision or responsibility whether they are in classroom, office, laboratory or field setting.
Under NMSU Policy, each department is responsible for having and updating an Emergency Action Plan and discussing the plan with their employees. All instructors need to review safety and emergency procedures with students during the first week of class.
The requirements include identifying the EAP coordinators for departmental areas. Further guidance is provided on the NMSU Emergency Planning and Preparedness page, on the EH&S Policies webpage, and on the NMSU Safety website (http://safety.nmsu.edu).
Building monitors should check and report any emergency safety devices such as exit signs, fire extinguishers, smoke doors, etc., that are damaged, missing, out-of-date, or not operating. Simply place a AiM work request to Office of Facilities and Services for repair (the AiM login is at https://fms-prod.nmsu.edu/fmax/login)
Information on emergency response & action as well as preventative safety training such as the Employee Safety & HazCom classes are provided by EH&S (class schedule). EH&S can provide assistance in developing an action plans and procedures for general safety and preparedness. Please check the documents and information above and on the Safety website (http://safety.nmsu.edu). If there are questions or a need for further assistance with emergency preparedness planning, please contact EH&S at 646-3327.
