NMSU students living on campus and their families receive a special visit during the winter break.

Every year around Dec. 23, the NMSU Fire Department adds a bit more twinkle to their fire engines.

Decorated in lights and carrying good old Saint Nick, one of three fire engines makes its way through the family housing area of campus. With holiday music in the background, NMSU fire personnel and their families toss candy and spread holiday cheer.

This annual event was started by Fire Chief Darrell Smith in the early 1990s.

The Office of Housing and Residential Life offers several on-campus living options – townhouses, apartments and homes – for students with families. Amenities include local telephone service, Internet and cable TV. Living on campus makes it easier to get to the many resources offered by the university, such as libraries, computer labs and food venues.
