NMSU professor portrays 'the meaning of things' at Santa Fe gallery

New Mexico State University associate professor of painting and drawing Jacklyn St. Aubyn has oil paintings on display in the Zane Bennett Contemporary Art Center in Santa Fe through Feb. 7.

“The Meaning of Things” focuses on the subtle, often overlooked, nuances of nature, according to Aubyn’s artist statement. In her most current work she depicts botanical subject matter found in her yard, neighborhood and community.

“Objects have a way of making the intangible moments and thoughts of my life tangible,” she said. St. Aubyn joined the art faculty in 2007 but has taught at NMSU in some capacity since 1991. She authored a second edition book “Drawing Basics” used in her introductory art courses and for sale nationwide.

This is the second time St. Aubyn was invited to host a solo show at the gallery. “It feels good to have my work displayed once again at the Zane Bennett Gallery. I like to have my work seen and have others respond to it.”
