Welcome to Information & Communication Technologies' online tutorial for creating your own homepage. This tutorial provides a basic step-by-step procedure for creating your own homepage and serves as a basic introduction to HTML (HyperText Markup Language). It is divided into five lessons and three reference sections that are intended to be read sequentially, but if you are not familiar with the World Wide Web or UNIX terminology, we recommend that you review World Wide Web Terms and UNIX Terms prior to starting Lesson 1.

The increased popularity of the Internet has made it possible for everyone to create and maintain a homepage. Maintaining your own homepage on the Internet has a number of advantages including showcasing your talents, sharing your thoughts with the world, and advertising your abilities. In any case, remember that whatever you put on your homepage can be accessed by anyone around the world. So, make sure that anything put on your homepage properly depicts YOU!

This tutorial assumes that you

  • know how to manipulate multiple windows. (So you can have the tutorial open while you work on your homepage.)
  • have a basic knowledge of computers and computer technology.
  • are using a computer in one of the computer labs on the campus of NMSU.
  • have at least an hour to spend in order to successfully complete all five lessons.
