Dr. Weldon Lamb
Maya astronomy, calendrics and hieroglyphic writing have held Dr. Lamb’s interest for years now, actually leading to a few articles about the stars as the Maya saw them, and soon, a book from UTA Press on the meaning and history of all the months names, from texts in stone and paint to lists and commentaries in print. Numerous trips to many Maya sites have brought him face to face with both the glyphs and the stars.
So far Dr. Lamb has shared these interests with student twice, in the class titled, “The Ancient Maya.” More often he has taught Introduction to Anthropology. Experience in an earlier life as a catholic seminarian, or student for the priesthood, for four years in college and one year in Rome, has provided the knowledge and perspective valuable for two other courses he enjoys offering, Introduction to Religious Studies and History of Christianity. Just this semester he has finally begun to enhance lectures with considerable visual delights made possible by PowerPoint.
