Biography:
Mary E. Ancker was born in Linton, Indiana, in 1954. As an Army “brat”, she lived in eight different states and Germany before graduating from high school in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. She graduated from Colorado State University (CSU), receiving a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. As a Distinguished Military Graduate, she was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps through the CSU ROTC program in 1976.
Colonel Ancker has served in a variety of assignments and locations while on active duty: platoon leader, B Company 4th Medical Battalion, Fort Carson, Colorado; Staff Officer, Division Surgeon, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado; Assistant S2/3 (Operations) 68th Medical Group, Ziegenberg, Germany; Assistant Chief, Patient Administration Division, Frankfurt Army Medical Center, Frankfurt, Germany. In reserve status, she has served as an Assistant Basic Officer Instructor, 4153 US Army Reserve School and Associate Professor of Military Science, New Mexico State University. Since 1992, Colonel Ancker has served as an Individual Mobilization Augmentee to the Army Surgeon General’s Office.
She has been mobilized twice. In 1993, in support of Operation Restore Hope (Somalia) she served as the Chief Patient Administration Division, Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. In response to events of September 11, 2001, Colonel Ancker was activated under Operation Noble Eagle and served from January 2002 to September 2003 as a Patient Administration Staff Officer, Office of the Surgeon General, Headquarters, Department of the Army.
Colonel Ancker is a graduate of the Army Medical Department Officer Basic and Advanced courses, as well as the Command and General Staff College. She holds a Masters of Business Administration from New Mexico State University.
She is a Department of the Army civilian at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, Fort Bliss, Texas and has been an Adjunct Professor of Military Science at New Mexico State University since 1985. Colonel Ancker is married to Michael Murphy. They have two children; Philip, 20, and John, 17.
