| As a professional artist over the past fifteen years I have been involved in a number of projects that have been visually engaging and conceptually diverse. My interest in oral histories and the social dynamics of a given culture have provided me with a rich array of opportunities for exploring the relationship between memory and history. The visual arts serve as the vehicle through which I bring together information, symbols and metaphors relevant to the particular project. Research and construction work hand-in-hand as I develop a visual format which will encompass the specific milieu along with my sculptural interests.
I continue to be drawn to sites of reverence and devotion. A pilgrimage in Eastern Slovakia, the enchantment of the morning prayers in a Macedonian monastery, the visual splendor of Rumi's tomb. I go to these places not because I believe that G-d exists in them, rather, I am there to touch the memory and history of the thousands who have come before me - those who have searched for a moment of recognition, the moment of listening to their souls engage the mystery.
Interior works, built in an array of materials and formats enables me to fully explore the themes which most effect my life. As I bring the work into outdoor public spaces I consciously soften the more intensely personal and cultural experiences that drive the concepts. I am interested in creating a visual environment that softens the flight of time for the viewer. Within this realm is a place where sculpture becomes the breath of poetry.
