The Program

The UNM/NMSU Cooperative Pharmacy Program is designed to increase the number of pharmacy students from southern New Mexico and ultimately the number of pharmacists practicing in the area. Students selected will complete the pre-pharmacy coursework (64 semester hours over 2-3 years) at NMSU, and then enter the UNM College of Pharmacy for the didactic phase of the PharmD curriculum (3 years).  Students will spend the summers following their first and second years as well as the fourth and final year of pharmacy school in southern areas of the state completing pharmacy practice experiences.

Eligibility Requirements

The program is open to high school seniors who meet the following criteria:

  • Attended high school in any of the following counties: Catron, Chaves, Cibola, Curry, de Baca, Dona Ana, Eddy, Grant, Guadalupe, Hidalgo, Lea, Lincoln, Luna, Otero, Quay, Roosevelt, Sierra, Socorro, Torrance.
  • Will be attending NMSU for pre-pharmacy coursework.
  • Have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 or higher (4.0 scale) by December of 12th grade.
  • Have earned a composite ACT score of at least 22.
  • Have an interest in pursuing pharmacy as a career.

Selection Process

Selection to the program is a competitive process and requires separate applications to NMSU and the UNM College of Pharmacy. Interested students:

  • Must return or postmark all Cooperative Pharmacy Program application materials (including official high school transcripts and ACT scores) to the UNM College of Pharmacy no later than 5:00pm, February 1, 2008:

  • Must apply and be admitted to NMSU before March 1, 2008 and indicate Pre-pharmacy as their choice of major on the NMSU application.
