Rush Chairman

What is Rush?
“Rush” is the word used by fraternities worldwide to describe their membership drive.

There are two types of Rush: formal and informal. Formal Rush happens at the beginning of each semester at NMSU and consists of organized and scheduled events by each fraternity for a specified period of time. Formal Rush concludes with a Bid Day, where fraternities extend invitations to men to join their fraternity.

Informal Rush is the fraternity’s ongoing effort to recruit new members. This happens year-round and with no set schedule of events and no formal Bid Day.

RushAlpha Tau Omega, established Sept. 11, 1865, was founded with a primary goal — to forge peace between a bitterly divided nation. With the signing of the ATO Constitution in the rear parlor of Glazebrook's home at 114 E. Clay Street in Richmond, VA, ATO was born; and it was the first fraternity founded after the Civil War. The creed, written 15 years after the fraternity's founding, speaks eloquently of what founder Otis Glazebrook said were "the thoughts and hopes uppermost in the minds" of the men who began Alpha Tau Omega.

You could be a part of the vision that has built one of the strongest national fraternities in the country. Its leadership development programs are recognized as the finest and most effective collegiate programs nationwide. Its alumni head some of the world's most prestigious companies, are influential in the halls of government and touch the lives of millions through social service, the arts, the classroom and the pulpit. However, the most energized part of the vision is ATO's commitment to you. Without believing that you are unique and make the entire organization stronger, ATO would simply be a shell with no heart. The founders' vision would have died long ago. However, today ATO is alive, vital and preparing thousands of undergraduates for their future.

The ATO vision does not end when you graduate. The National Fraternity helps keep more than 100,000 living alumni in touch with their friends. ATO also depends on alumni to continue building on the initial vision of the founders, to help undergraduates and to assist in carrying out the programs of the Fraternity.

ATO Vision
Recruitment of well-rounded men who are committed to graduate and become stronger from the ATO experience. In exchange, ATO will committ its full resources to help men get the most out of college. Developing Critical Skills including leadership, organizational management and network building that translates into skills employers are looking for. Communication focusing on the latest technology keeping alumni and the chapter informed. Career placement services helping brothers find that first job. They'll be part of a career network that will help keep ATO relevant after graduation. Board of Trustees will be nearby to advise and help keep the chapter on track, ensuring young men's experience are solid ones.
