¡BIEN!
website is
designed to provide the best health information available for the
people; the website will be useful for both, healthcare consumers and healthcare
providers. We
chose the name BIEN, the Spanish word for
"well", because we believe that reliable health information is an
important factor in improving the quality of people's lives.
¡BIEN! website provides access to reliable health information in English and Spanish to the public, promotoras or health providers, researchers, faculty, and students. ¡BIEN! was initially funded in 2000 through a 2-year grant from the National Library of Medicine to NMSU. Since 2002, the program has been directed and the website maintained by Dr. Hugo Vilchis, director of the Border Epidemiology and Environmental Health Center of New Mexico State University. |

¡BIEN!
named the
2004 ALA/Information Today, Inc.
"Library of the Future".
The Library of the Future Award recognizes an individual library,
library consortium, group of librarians or support organization for
innovative planning for, applications of, or development of patron
training programs about information technology in a library setting.
¡BIEN! named the state winner for New Mexico for the 2006 NCLIS Health Information Awards. The award was announced by its sponsor, the U.S. National Commission on Libraries and Information Science. Awards were given to health information programs; the selection criteria included how well the program encouraged lifestyle improvement among the target population, the program's adaptability, collaboration with other community organizations and how successfully the program was able to reach out to people with low information literacy skills. | |
