In an effort to promote the State of New Mexico’s “Done by One” campaign the Border Epidemiology and Environment Health Center (BEC) and La Clinica de Familia have been working with the State Immunization Program and the Doña Ana County Immunization Coalition to improve immunization rates in the Southern New Mexico Region.  The goal of the project is to increase immunization rates by decreasing missed appointments, increasing the completion of the  vaccination series on time, and increasing the rate parents have up-to date immunization records for their children.

We promote on time children immunizations by providing a picture incentive to parents each time they bring their kids under the a ge of one to vaccinate at the participating clinics. These pictures can be placed in a baby book that we provide to them.  Children over the age of one still receive a 4x6 photo during their immunization appointment along with a magnet frame to place on the refrigerator at home.  Parents have not always provided an updated copy of their kid’s immunization record  or have difficulty keeping track of these records so as a bonus incentive we provide a small index sized picture of their child to place on the front of their immunization cards.  If there is a picture on the front of their child’s immunization record, we believe that parents may be less likely to misplace the record and in-turn increase the chances of a completed immunization series.

Currently there are cameras and printers placed in 16 clinics in Doña Ana County, 1 clinic in Sierra County, and 2 clinics in Luna County.
