Border Health Council Committees:
The New Mexico Border Health Council was organized in 1990 to help address the health issues created by rapid population growth and economic development in the New Mexico Border region.

The Border Health Council is a volunteer organization of professionals and community representatives, mainly from throughout Southern New Mexico.
* The Council's primary mission is to improve the health status of the New Mexico border population through advocacy, community education, and resource development.
* Its members advocate for improved health status in the border region by being proactive in identifying problems at the community level and developing specific strategies and solutions.

The Council serves as the primary community advisory body to the Border Health Office of the New Mexico Department of Health.

The Council works to actively represent the concerns of the New Mexico border community by making recommendations at the local, state, and federal levels, promoting the improvement of basic public health and primary care services, and seeking infrast ructure and health research development.

The Council's accomplishments have included the development of plans for the creation and funding of La Clínica de Familia Promotora Project and the New Mexico Border Health Office. The Council publishes position papers on issues critical to the New Mexico border region. The Council also distributes a quarterly binational / bilingual newsletter to maintain communication with its members and the U.S. - Mexico border community.

Broad based community representation is the key to the Council's ongoing success. Membership is open to all interested individuals.
